shock install

It has been years since I installed shocks. I have a pair of gabriel gas shocks for the rear and have what is a safety/stupid question. I read somewhere that raising the rear end of the truck gives you easier access, but you need to support it with jack stands. All I have are drive up ramps. Should I just do it from the ground level or what? The old air shocks are also engaged and not responsive. Worried that taking the old ones out will cause a drop. Better to ask now, than be flattened tommorrow. Thanks.

Well don't worry about it dropping the springs will hold it up. Second gas shocks will want to be fully extended by nature. If you are strong enough you can collapse them while you install them. It is easier if you can put a jack under the frame and lift the truck while leaving the tires on the ground. Even a bumper jack will get it high enough to help.

It is an easy job go for it..
