Ok so Im working on a firends computer and I finish and go to leave and I try and start and click. I hear the sileniod hit and no starter. So I try a jump and the nada just the same so Im like make the starter and so I tap on it with a hammer nada. I need my truck its my way around. Should I get a new starter? Should I take this starter off and look at her? I had to get a ride home and so now Im in a binde.
Pull the starter and have it tested by your parts store. If it is bad, I suggest getting new over rebuilt. I've had bad luck w/ rebuilts, even one with lifetime warranty I ended up replacing too soon. They let me upgrade to new and now its been 3yrs+ w/o problems.
BTW - if your battery has lost a cell or two, it won't start even with a jump. The lights still look like the battery is good. That happened to me in a McDonalds parking lot. Luckily it was right next to a repair shop that had good batterires, swapped them out in McD's lot, and drove home 10 minutes later.
It Effin snowed and well its cold as hell out there so I cant do anything right now. So I guess I should just pull that bad boy at work clean it and have it tested?
what year is the truck? either the older ones or the newer ones don't have spade connectors. Have you tried jumping the starter relay by the firewall with a screwdriver?
Oh yeah, radio takes practically zero battery... turn on your lights and try to start it while somebody else looksat the lights. If they dim, then either your battery or battery cables are at fault. Make sure there's no corrosion!!
So I pulled the starter and I was like whats that smell....and well that starter was ROASTED. So I get a new one put her on and she starts like a champ. Starts faster and purrs like a kitten. I love fords this was the easiest starter job ever like literally ever.
