Easy button

Here's one for the electrical gods... I need a toggle switch wiring direction. I have an 83' f-150 4x4. This vehicle ran before but stopped after it went under in hurricane katrina. I've replaced my alternator, starter, starter relay, distributor, and ignition coil. I have bought a Painless harness and will install it, but all of the inside is bare. I am going to wait until I have a dash and an inside in to wire the whole thing. I have a wire from the starter to the starter relay. Two wires from the starter relay: one to the battery, and the other to the alternator. I have an accel ignition coil, I will run the hot wire and the ground to the battery. Should I put a ignition button to an ON toggle switch in a wire from the alternator to the hot side starter relay. Any help will be appreciated... Thanks Imabaytiger

Here is a diagram of the ignition system(if your distributor has a vacuum line going to it). This will be the bare minimum to get the engine running. You can skip the starter bypass shown going to the starter relay(you probably do not have that terminal) or if you want to include that wire, you could use a starter switch with double poles(two sides to it). If you want to wire it like the diagram, you just need to get an older style starter relay. The resistor was in the original harness. Your painless harness probably has a resistor in it, but you can buy a large white one for a chrysler and make it work.

Here is a diagram of the alternator wiring if you originally had a ammeter gauge in the dash. This is the bare minimum wiring to get the truck charging.

The only thing not shown in the above diagrams is the large wiring going from the battery + to the starter relay(solenoid) and the other large wire going from the starter relay to the starter. And the large wire going from the battery - to the engine block.

Combine the two diagrams above, and that will get you going, with no lighting.
