Sounds like you're talking about a mass airflow sensor (MAF). I don't think they started using MAF til 93 or 94. My 92 doesn't have MAF.

Yea the MAF wasnt in the trucks till 94. If you bought just the engine and not harness and stuff you can still just hook up speed density. If you bought the harness and everything for it just get the stang computer but that depends on your tranny.

it has a map sensor (what is the dif between map and maf this has allways confused me ) sensor connected to to one of the ports at the intake manifold that i replaced a few months ago with the engine, the engine installer got the engine from napa, supposed to be one of the better from what ive read. I'm just checking everything to get a few more mpg, the other issue is the 02 sensor, ther are 2 nuts welded to the exaust just before the collector and it looks like it may not be seated for enough into the exaust...if i reseat it farther into the pipe will it make a dif or am i just spinning my wheels on this one. the only thing i have not replaced is the distributer looks old and orriginal. Fuel pressure is fine 38-40 psi...i removed the rear tank and replaced the front one with new and new internal pump...removed the resovoir on the side rail and am pumping directly from the front tank to the high pressue pump on the rail and then to the reulater and injectors, injectors are new too. All oppinions are welcome...
Happy Friday

Depending on what transmission and rear you have, and how heavy you are on the pedal, it may not get much better.

are you getting a check engine light for the O2 sensor? If not, I wouldn't play with it. Don't wanna accidentally break it.

is something leading you to believe there is a problem with the distributor?

WELL...when cold it starts up after the engine cranks 3 times around as it starts to warm up the rpms gradually drop to about 6-700 rpms, as it warms up with rpms around 900 the engine shakes abit untill completely warm, then everthing settles down to 650-700, SHE runs fine. I remember before the new engine was put in there was no cranking of the engine, 1/2 a crank and boom starts right up, so that is why i was thunking distributor.

sounds more like a bad ground somewhere ( a notorious problem on these trucks ).

clean up the cable ends at the starter.

i'm totally drawing a blank on all the grounding straps. off the top of my head, there is one under the truck on the passenger side near starter area going from the frame to the body.

there is one going to the radiator core support to that seems to get corroded alot, and the main ground from the batt, to the frame, then the block, if they painted the block make sure the block has been scraped off here to make sure it's hitting metal.

If you do have a MAF (airflow) sensor, it should be right where the tube connects at the filter box. If its a speed density (MAP), you probably have Two tubes coming from the box to the throttle body. (MAF has two tubes as well, BUT, it Y's into a single tube)

After your truck finally does start, does it blow any black smoke? Might be a flooding problem. Check the fuel pressure again, and this time watch it after your turn off the motor.... It should very, very slowly drop.
