Transmission Swap
I have a 65 F250, 352 FE block, 2 WD, NP 435 4-speed manual tranny. I want to swap out the transmission with an overdrive manual tranny. I need help. What transmissions are out there that could be used to swap out the 435? I keep reading that "an adapter kit" may be available for some swap outs. However, I never read where these kits are available from. Does anyone have any experience in this area that they would share with me? I just finished a complete rebuild of the motor. It seems a shame that this beautifully running V8 has a top-end speed of about 70 mph because of the gearing of the tranny and the rear end. I plan on pulling off the 3/4 ton rear end with the 4.11 gears and installing a 1/2 ton rear end with taller gears which will help, but really would like the overdrive option in the tranny if I can make it work.
