Question M50D transmission question

I have a 92' Ford F-150 4WD with a M50D rebuilt 5 speed transmission that I put in last year. The gear shift moves out of 5 gear to the neutral position but the transmission remains engaged in 5th gear. The rebuilder says he has never seen this problem before. Wondering what everyone out there thinks of this and what might be the problem. would like to fix without removing the transmission again! I am new to this site but expect to be back frequently as I am rebuilding a 72' ford 4WD half-ton and just bought a 76 F-600 dump truck on Ebay.

Sounds like the guy who rebuilt it messed something up.

sounds like could be a broken shift fork or broken pin and the shaft is sliding in the fork

Thanks for the advice. I am planning on trying a new shift stem as the old one may be worn enough to allow it to slip past the button into the neutral position. The bushings look good but I did notice the stub on the stick shift is missing, ( not the stubs in the tower). Would that have any effect on shifting? I also have trouble getting into 3rd gear from second now which to me suggests it may be the shift stem that is worn? Is my thinking correct? Eric J
