Question 352 oil capacity

Ok so I'm reading the owners manual for my truck (65 F100 352) the other day just for grins. I have always put 5 quarts of oil in with filter change.

The owners manual says that it takes 5 quarts and in a foot note says to add one quart with filter change.

This would make it 6 quarts with my math.

I changed the oil and installed 6 quarts and the level is just above the full mark.

How much oil do you guys with the 352 add.

Jd

JD, 5 qts. has been the standard for years. I have read the 6 qt. debate on this website also, but the last time I changed the oil in my FE, I continued the 5 qt. tradition. I have never read about a street FE that was harmed by running 5 qts.

sorry not to be more helpful

John

I have allways run 5qts in all my Fe engines, I was taught that over filling a engine with oil was not good, the crank and rods turning in the oil would cause the detergents in the oil to foam, creating air pockets in the oil passages. Though this is infromation that I learned back in the 60's from some of the old machanics that my father knew at the Ford garage, I still go by it.
