Coolant Question
Assumptions: Antifreeze was originally a 50/50 mix.
Book shows capicity 8 gallons but Cookie says his only holds 7, even draining the block so I used 7 gallons.
After adding the 5 gallons of antifreeze, the mix would have been 14% water, 86% antifreeze. This would cause the engine to overheat and could cause damage in some circumstances.
If you drain 1.5 gallons out as I originally stated and replaced with distilled water, the mix would end up being 33% water, 67% antifreeze, still way too high.
To reach a 50/50 mix, you would actually have to drain 2.9167 gallons and replace with distilled water.
If you drained half, or 3.5 gallons and replaced with distilled water, the mix would be 57% water, 43% antifreeze; this mix would not protect the engine from sub zero temps but would do a better job of cooling the engine.
Teach me to take a stab with my SWAG methods!
I picked up 3 gallons of distilled water this afternoon and I'm going to drain out 3 gallons of my bright green coolant and replace it. By the way, the local market(this is Hawaii) charges $3/gallon for the water!
Aloha!

A gallon of distilled is less than $1 here in CO.
