Intake Manifold Gasket
I am nearing the end of my 460 build. I put the heads on last night, and the upper valvetrain today. Then it came time to drop on the intake manifold, and I found a problem. My total gasket set has gaskets for this, but I also bought one of the ones with what I call a gallery guard. By this I mean the steel between the manifold and the block. When I took the manifold off 2 months ago, it had the gallery guard type, but my shop manual only has the more normal type. What should I do?

I put an Edebrock Performer on a couple of years ago and when I did it I studied this same thing your talking about and decided the best was to use the metal gallery and the intake gaskets, just as it was with the stock manifold. Two years later I have not had any problems at all. One thing that pan does is deflects the heat off the lifters from the heat crossover on the manifold. I use this truck on-road, off-road, & for towing.
