2 Questions...

1) I have the manual A/C controls on my 05 F150 FX4 (5.4), I have noticed what seems to be the cycling on and off of the A/C compressor (click, click noise) while the A/C button is not on, and the little orange lite NOT illuminated. When the button is pushed and the A/C lite is on it still does it (to be expected, cause now the A/C is on). Well, when i have the A/C off and the dial set to the defrost and floor position, i notice the "click, click" sound or the cycling on and off of the compressor. I always thought that when you do not have the A/C on that the compressor will not engage/dissengage because its only drawing outside air into the cabin, but when the A/C button is pushed, you should start hearing the "click click" noise. Do any of you think this is operating wrong? Sorry for the everlong explanation. If this is confusing, please tell me.

2)I have also started to notice a slight clatter from time to time from the engine as i accelerate, it does not happen all the time and its very subtle. May be just me freaking out about every little noise i think i hear, but anyways, anyone else experience this, and what was done to correct it?

I want to get all issues taken care of before warranty expires!!

Thanks to ALL!!

In Response to yoiur first question...Your Compressor will cycle on and off automatically while you are running the defroster. It does this for a few minutes to remove any moisture that may be in the air causing your windows to fog up. This is normal so I wouldn't worry about it.

As for your second question I dont have an answer for you but am sure someone will

I have noticed that my a/c compressor clicks on and off every 15-20 seconds. Also, the a/c turns warm like it's on vent when I stop at a red light. I didn't think this was normal so I took it into the service dept twice and they just told me that it was fine and it's ok that it cycles on/off that frequently. Is that right?
Also, is it possible that there is coolant leaking into the air system because when I turn the just the fan on, it has a very strong smell to it and it didn't do that before I started using the heater this past week?
Thanks,
Christie =)

2) I have that slight clatter also. Almost sounds like a rattle but I cannot tell where it comes from.

1) Like Spiggy said this is normal. If it does not cycle on and off you now have a problem.

Christie -- Coolant smell from the air ducts would indicate that your heater core has a leak in it.

2) Clatter from the engine on acceleration can mean a lot of diffferent things. Need more info. Are you running the correct fuel, octane level wise? How many miles? What kind of load are you pulling normally?
That being said I would guess that you are probably on the correct fuel, somewhere between 10K & 25K miles, normally run an empty bed to an occasional light load. In that case you probably could have the problem corrected by having the dealer do a prom re-flash.

I have 12.5K miles on the truck, run the proper octane level as called for by ford, normally empty bed, so no loading. Like I said, i only notice it from time to time it does not happen everytime I accelerate. I mainly notice it while in traffic and slowly rolling then accelerating slow-to-mild and the clatter may happen breifly and quietly. When I mash on the throttle and accelerate fast, i never notice it, it sounds fine. When i hear it, it drives me crazy. So you think a reflash will cure it?

Thanks again guys!!

Thanks for the response Ebtdm. I'm taking the truck into the service dept next week to have them check if there is a leak in the heater core. Also, what are your thoughts on the reason for the a/c blowing warm air when I sit at a red light or have the truck in park with the a/c on? I'm just hoping to get some ideas as to what is wrong so I can provide the service dept with that info.
Thanks alot for your help,
-Christie =)

Stangman -- yep go for the reflash

Christie -- AC blowing warm air would suggest low on refrigerant.
