4.9 Efi

I've been contemplating swapping my 1bbl on my '84 4.9 for the EFI off of a newer 4.9.

A couple people have told me not to because there's problems with the EFI itself, so I thought I'd ask you guys, is there?

BTW its in an 84 Ford Bronco being built for the trails.

Thanks,

I dont see any problems with efi myself. Power wise, I'd stick with a carbed set up, you can get a 4 barrel intake and a holley 390 or whatnot and get some decent power. Then get headers, a cam and whatnot.

Only problems I can think of is the useless emmissions garbage.

what about steep inclines? I'm afraid of starving the carb.

Im not a big Carb person, but this Holley 470 off road carb should be ideal for the 4.9. According to them its good for off roading. Not sure about climbing steep hills and cutting out. I remember reading about them (or the edlebrock off road carb) in a Summit magazine, they claimed it maintained idle at a 45* angle.

or perhaps the truck avenger carb made for steep inclines. As for the EFI, I'm not 100 percent sure, but I think the head and pistons are different. I'd do some searches on this forum.
