True dual exhaust

Hello,
Does anybody have true dual exhaust on their Expy's? I saw one today so I know it can be done. I will have mine done or I will do it myself if I can find a kit.

Watch out on this: The plastic fuel tank is placed on the driver's side of the truck, between the driveshaft and the driver's side frame rail.

Do a search, it's been discussed. Snaking around the gas tank is the main issue. Not sure you'll find a kit, ends up to be a custom job. Some years may be easier than others. Good luck.

The truck I looked at had both run down the passenger side, mufflers were side by side, and then one crossed back over between the rear diff and the spare tire. The work looked very professional. I left a note on his windshield asking for information but no response yet.

We had true duals on our '97 Expy. Both pipes ran down the passenger side and both exited in the stock location next to each other.

Never have understood the reason people think true duals should exit on each side of the vehicle.

Cause it looks better than duals out the stock location IMHO.

I would think any good exhaust shop could definately build a custom setup. Just make sure you get quality pipes, ie. mandrel bent, and at least stainless tubing.

I guess we need to know if you want it for looks, sound or performance...

If it's just for looks, maybe look into having someone just Y the pipe at the rear and run 2 tailpipes, either straight out the back, or stock and oppiste locations.

If it's for power, then true dual from the cats into dual muffler into dumps would be my suggestion, but it'd be loud as heck.
I think the reason for having both exit the same side is that in this application one side would have to be way longer than the other and might produce some funky backpressure/scavenging issues. Generally speaking, you want both sides to be as close to equal in length as possible.

If it's for sound, (which I doubt in this case) there are a lot easier and cheaper ways to do that...

If you want all three things (don't we all), plan on dropping a nice chunk of change.
And if the owner of the truck you saw ever responds, let us all know. I'd be curious to know what that cost and if they noticed any increase in power.

I'll always take performance over "looks".

That's what I've got.
Custom duals, two Magnaflow high-flow cats, gutted pre-cats, two small Magnaflow mufflers and a Magnaflow x-pipe.

IMHO, duals aren't worth it from a performance standpoint unless you have forced induction or are making a lot more power than stock.
