I am preparing for a cross country drive, towing a Jeep Wrangler. I have a 2004 2wd v10 2wd auto tranny F250. I am very particular about the maintenance and would like to change the tranny fluid before the adventure. So:
-Is there a tutorial for changing the tranny fluid for my vehicle?
-What is the OEM spec for fluid type and amount?
-Do I need to change the filter or just the fluid?
If you're gonna do it you might as well do it right and change the filter. The pan gasket is reusable, so the kit you get may or may not have a gasket in it. Drain the pan with the plug first so you don't take an ATF shower. Use DexronIII/Mercon fluid in the 4R100. You'll get around 6 quarts changed out this way. The system holds around 17 quarts on a "dry" fill.
