I lost it.
We examined this in my Managerial Econ class last year (2nd yr MBA). In blind experiments, 2 children were given cash. One was given $10 and one was given $5. They then took $5 away from the "$10 child" leaving them both with $5 each. Afterwards, they were interviewed and time after time (the experiment was repeated on many sets of children) the child that had originally been given $10 was unhappy about walking away from the experiment with only $5 while the one who got $5 originally was thrilled to have received $5.
In other words, you won't feel satisfied if you have to spend more than you intended. Try to meet in the middle or look elsewhere. Think of the sensation of finding the same truck elsewhere for $3000 cheaper. Think of the cool mods you can get for $3000!
I like this one.... 2003 F250 $23900.00 w/ 49000 miles

The truck was not in excellent shape, it needed repairs, it will be a very tough truck to sell being over $20,000 even with finance. If you choose to buy a new one with $25,000 down, even with the worse credit in the world, they would give you 0% finance and all the incentives.
You know what? Considering it had problems at trade in, that should have been fixed before even being out on the lot, any leak is something very basic you would fix before selling on a two year old vehicle, I would skip the truck.
I would say this truck was close to a buy back, or the guy got rid of it because it was a problem truck, or because he never took care of it, and once it needed repair outside of the 36K or lease he dumped it with a good reason.
imo, Go hunting for something that really is cherry and for a 2003 or 2004 something under the limited warranty. There are literally 100,000s of FX4 trucks out there.
Or buy new.
Have you run a Carfax report as a basic starting point and called the previous owner? I would do those two things before I plunked down $25,000.
I did the same exact thing, though my truck did not cost that much. The Ford dealer would not budge on the price. I told him "I was not in a hurry so if it drops a few hundred to my asking price to call and let me know." I left my phone number and walked outta there with the biggest hidden smile on my face.
I knew they wouldn't let a deal slip away for a few hundred. Guess what?!?! Lo and behold, not 3 days later and my tells me the dealership manager called and wanted to sell the truck to me for the price I asked for. Give it time, let them come to you. If they don't then it's not meant to be. Cigarxtc - Thanks for your post, honestly that is really what I needed to hear. I was just so excited to get the truck. I was just about to call the dealer and try to meet in the middle. But now that I have read your post I think I will give it a few days.
We walked out on a deal we were negotiating because the dealer could not meet our price for the used truck they were selling. We were also paying cash, not financing. I was really downhearted as I had started to get attached to that truck.
But.....
We were also looking at private party sales of used trucks, and we had left a few messages. A couple of hours after we walked out of the dealership, we got a call back on from a private party seller. We looked at the truck, drove it, fell in love with it, and bought it! At the time we were looking at the private party truck, the dealership was calling us back - still not willing to meet our price (but close), but wanting to negotiate more.
The bottom line is that you will get your truck, it may just take some time.
Stick with it.
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
The advice to deal at the end of the month (used or new) is right on! The sales staff always gets pushed to produce unrealistic numbers and they'll do just about anything the last day(s) to get just a few dollars more. Getting attached to one truck on the lot is exactly what the sales folks want you to do - never let them think that any truck is anything more than a hunk of steel and plastic to you. Make them sell it!
Hang tough!
I started looking around on Autotrader and local magazines today, nothing yet, but I can wait.
