I am in the process( hopefully) of buying a 1948 flatbed truck. The body is straight, no major rust issues. It runs but smokes a lot. It is mostly complete, Not really considering it as a running truck. Neither the owner nor myself are sure what the truck is worth. How much should I expect to pay for it, I know the info is limited.
If its a F-1 flatbed, you can get a repo bed if originality isn't an issue. Post your location and some one may know where there's a good used bed. Still lots of them in junkyards.
I beleive it's an F-1,,, I live in Los Angeles, in the San Gabriel Valley. Not sure what route I would go with, be it original or slight to moderate custom. Thanks for the info. If I do get it. I will be posting lots and lots of questions. Also working on trying to pick up a 32 Chevy truck. We'll see which one I pick up.
Welcome to the forum! When you get a chance, take a few photos of your find and set up your gallery. The pictures will help us give you a better idea of what the truck might be worth.
Ok, it's an F-3. I took some pictures. I'll try to figure out how to post them. The guy has a few other vehicles he wants to get rid of, so I am trying to help him get rid of them in exchange for better price, once we come up with one to begin with. Anyone interested in a 1975 bmw with newly rebuilt engine??? He also has a couple Chevy( is that word tabboo on this site????) trucks (74 and 73) a 46 Packard ( complete and running but needs work) and the shell of a 40 coupe,,, Ok, enough selling,, Gonna try to post the pics,,,
Its a nice lokking truck, but I think 1000.00 would be much, if it had a bed (Even if it was in bad shape) and a seat then I would would consider $1000.00, but then again How bad do you want it?
That kind of truck and condition is like buying a blank canvas on which a great piece of art will be built.
If you like the truck and can see in your mind what it will look like when its fixed up...then buy it for yourself. These old trucks are not as easy to find anymore.
Good luck with it. Ed
