Need some tunning advice

How much of a benefit will I receive from purchasing a tuner and having my truck tuned to run 87 octane instead of 93? Is anyone running with a 87 tune on board and how did it pick up your pep versus the stock tune?

Thumbs up

I have the Diablo Sport tuner for my 05 F 150 and I first installed the 87 tune. It made an immediate difference in throttle response and power. I now have it set on 91 tune but retarded the timming a little and I am running 89 octane gas. I definitely reccomend buying a programmer type tuner for your truck because your motor has the power, but Ford's factory tune keeps the power down.

I need to read up on the tuners. Wonder why Ford doesn't just send the trucks out of the factory with full power potential? efx4......do you see a significant change in gas mileage running the tune you mentioned above?

Sending the trucks out with full power tuning would provide horrible gas mileage estimates in their window stickers. And although these things can handle the extra power, it could "prematurely stress" certain drivetrain and/or suspension components that Ford would have to honor through warranty repair. Besides, what would all us shade-tree guys do with our extra money and time?
