i have a 1993 f 250 7.3 turbo diesel that has approx 200000 miles on it. i would like to know of any thing i can do to increse towing power. i live on a ranch and pull a 20' stock trailer with the truck. the truck has a automatic that i had ford rebuild. i thought about trying a larger turbo or a cool air injection but i did not know if the power will be worth the cost. thanks for any help
thanks, do you have any recomendations on a cool air system for my truck. i have found a k&N system but i would take any suggestions also is it worth it to turn up the pump. or is it more trouble
i make all my own add on parts, so i never looked at the others except to compare prices. the last time i looked a diesel cold air setup was on the lines of $175. i made one with 3 inch aluminum pipe and silicone adapters from the local speed shop for $35. took 2 days to put together.
my exhaust is all home made also, i came off the down pipe, and put a 3 inch T,then dual 3 inch back to the bed, then 4 inch stacks. total for the exhaust was around $250.
A simple thing to do is to disconnect the factory Turbo waste gate which currently limits the turbo output to 7.0 psig. I have pushed my 93 factory garrett turbo to 10 psig and gained a few horses that way when I need them.
IF YOU DO THIS, MAKE SURE YOU GET A PYROMETER FIRST SO YOU CAN MONITOR YOUR EXHAUST TEMPS. KEEP THEM BELOW 1100 F.
If you want to go further get an aftercooler, cost a bit of money but is fairly simple to install.
