inner fenders
Would the inner fenders from a 77 fit on a 72? My father in-law has a 72 that is rusted around the hood hinge and I have parts trucks in the 73-79 range. They look about the same at the firewall but is there a length difference maybe?

I have the exact same problem with my truck. I have this fear that the hood will come down on me one of these days. At around $200 a piece for new ones compared to $100 for the later models (not to mention the good metal in the salvage yards). It sure does make this swap sound attractive. I would be interested what it would take to make this work.

The 73-79 inner fenders are definitely a bolt in swap for 67-72 trucks; the main physical difference being the hood hinges mounting on the outside of the rib. I once bought a parts truck (67) with this done to it and if you didn't know your trucks you'd swear it was factory.

Is there anything special about the hinges being outside/inside? If I remember right, there are long bolts with nuts so it shouldn't matter right?

The long bolts are for the bracket sticking out of the firewall. The hinge bolts are shorter and go into captive nuts in the stiffener inside the rib. The hinges bolt on to the hood in the same place whether you use the older or newer inner fenders. The best part of these old trucks is that so much interchanges with the 73-79's. The windshields, front I-beams with disc brakes, power steering/ brakes and even the carpets are usable. Seats and delay wiper switches up to 91 will even fit.
