Foglight switch

Can someone help me find an old thread? Did search, nothing comes up?
I want to modify my '01 foglight switch so the fogs can come on with just running lights. I remember you have to file away at the plastic, but i think there was electrical work too. Currently only come on with headlights.
Thanks!!

I remember the mod your talking about. And if I remember correctly you had to connect the Brown wire across to the White/Black wire in the headlight switch. I believe the White/Black wire is the foglight wire and the Brown wire is the parking light wire. That way when just the parking lights are on you'll be able to pull the switch out and get power to the foglights. My memory may not be the best though and I would test the White/Black wire with a DMM to make sure it's the foglights. I know the Brown wire is the parking lights.

I heard an auto lamp switch will do the same thing and you don't have to mod anything. Just pop in a new switch. It's about $30 from what I remember.

I don't like to mess with wiring, afraid I will short something out.

Anybody got a link or detailed instructions? I'd like to do this as well.

Exactly what do you file?

Can this be accomplished by simply swapping the existing headlight switch for one with the fog and auto functions?

The wiring as desribed above works, I tested yesterday. The filing to the internals of the switch mechanism are detailed here: http://community.webshots.com/album/29429087ghGhmtscKZ.

I did a slight modification, so that my fogs can come on at anytime. Instead of jumping from brown to black and white, I installed a jumper from blak and white wire to red and green, which is hot all the time. Only disadvantage is that now there is no "bell" reminder. I also had to modify the filing of the switch, instead of elongating the "ramp", I cut out a whole square, which allows me to "pull" out the fog switch in any location.

Hope this helps!

On my '01 the switch pulls out when in the park position. Do I still have to mod the switch or can I just tap the brown park wire and have it work?
