I have a 72 F250 with 390. I plan to do the Big Cap conversion. I am looking at MSD-8414 Cap-A-Dapt(25.50 at Summit)which is a red cap with brass terminals.
I am also looking at FMS-M12106A303 (Ford Motorsport) $29.95 at Summit. In Summits picture the spark plug type posts above the cap look to be Aluminum. So I assume the internal contacts are also aluminum.
I understand that brass is best.
I plan on using the MSD 8.5mm wires.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks.

I say go for it. I have the cap #8414 and 8.5mm Super Conductor wires. Just make sure that the wires you get are HEI wires. I ordered the stock Super Conductor wires for my 390 and when I went to put them on they wouldn't fit the 8414 cap. So I had to send them back and order wires with the HEI style. Make sure you have a good coil too. Hope this helps.
Jake,
I guess I am leaning towards the MSD Adapt-A-Cap even though it is red instead of Ford Blue. I am planning on installing a Universal set since I can cut the wires to the exact best fit length. MSD includes a slick tool which allows you to cut the insulation back from the wire and perform the crimping operation by placing the tool in a vise. The Universal MSD 8.5mm Super Conductor Wire set would be PN 31199. (Note: PN 3199 is referred to as the Heli-Core Wire which is different from the 8.5mm) The Spark Plug connectors for the PN 31199 are M/A which means multiple angle since they can be bent by hand up to 45 degrees. The Universal set comes with both the HEI and Socket connectors depending on the distributor cap you have. Of course after I put on the large HEI type cap I will use the HEI connectors.

That all sounds good. I do like the idea of the universal wire set. I was going to go with that also, but somehow spaced it when I went to make my order. The HEI wires I got (31399) are a little to long. But shorter than stock wires. I like the adapt-a-cap. Yes, I would rather have Ford blue but since I went with all msd on my ignition, it blends in nicely. I don't see any performance gains and it's to early to tell if my mpg has improved. But I do like the idea of having a solid ignition. I hate the feeling of being stranded and helpless. I kept my old Duraspark ignition so I can switch between ignitions. Thats if the msd 6al ever fails.
