I have owned a number of cordless drills. Porter Cable worked well but the batteries failed early. Made sense to just buy a new one since the batteries were so expensive so I bought a Milwalkee. No power. Bought a Bosche which seemed good, got stolen after two weeks. Bought a DeWalt, good drill but way heavy. Bought a Makita. I now have four different models of Makita. Great output for the size, very reliable, long lasting batteries, nice switches and light weight. I especially like the Makita impact screw driver, the chuck is an accessory.

Had several cheapies along the way too, forgot the brands, but they were all light duty and didn't last long.

94_turbo, I have a 3/4" variable speed with forward / reverse, two speed gearbox Milwaukee magnetic base drill motor, this is a $1,900 tool that's 7 years old. Three years ago the 1" wide x 1/2" high green push for on switch button came off, lost, can't find. NOT AVAILABLE thru Milwaukee but they will sell me a newer control panel with all the above controls for $192, WTF!
I don't buy that where you can get replacement parts with Milwaukee, can't get a 50 cent part for a $1,900 machine. When at work i'll brag about the lack of a cheap replacement part on the magnetic drill to other welders / iron workers. Milwaukee's not happy when I told them but then neither am I on their part replacement.
.....=o&o>.....

I can only give my input on three. I have a Panasonic 15.6 volt that is going strong after 3 years of almost daily use. Hard use too, never a problem and the battery life is great. It's also very compact and light weight. Has a feature where it delivers maximam torque at any speed which is a very nice when using it as a screw gun.

I have an 18 volt Dewalt that is bigger and has more power. Heavier too. A couple years with it now but it never see's the day to day use the Panasonic does. Great drill though and zero problems with it.

My dad has a Ridgid 18 volt that has seen lots of use but is by far the heaviest and biggest of the bunch. Battery life isn't good and over all feel of it is crappy at best. It only gets used if there are no other good options available.

After hundreds or even thousand of dollars in the last 20 years spent on cordless tools to use in my daily job, I finally had enough and made the switch back to cord tools.
If it wasn't the batteries, it was the charger, and for myself the cordless wasn't saving me anytime.
I bought several different lengths of extension cords with lighted end, 15', 25',50' & 100' and when their is no job power i use a Honda EU 2000 portable generator.
I then bought new power tools, and do not miss the cordless frustration anymore.
