This may be a nieve question but has anyone brought up the topic of having one of the geniuses here at FTE come up with a custom tune similar to one of Jody T`s but not similar enough to rip him off so that those of us with the predator programmer can experience some of these great tunes without having to sell our box to buy a DP?
I know there are custom tunes for our boxes but have no idea about the depth these can go to or even what differences chips offer as opposed to programmers other than click on the fly. Do they get way more into fueling and timing of injection?
I for one would pay for a nice custom tune that could be downloaded to my machine.
They have a website and can provide any custom tune you'd like.
Ya Diablo but I don`t know what the hell I would ask for, on thier site they refer you to someone else and charge another 250.00 for a custom tune. WTF!!
If you get the Predator, I heard you can use it as a scan tool also? Is this true? Any other system can do that?
The SCT Xcalibrator 2 can be used as a scan tool also. Jody Tipton at DP Tuner is now writing custom tunes for the SCT! They are fairly inexpensive and can be emailed to you! There will also be a lot of user adjustable features added, shift points, tire size, axle ratios etc.. A firmware update will allow this and standalone data logging. Another cool feature of this tuner, both software and firmware upgradable. Uses standard USB interface. I'm thinking of switching from the Predator I'm using now. This seems like a good combination of chip and tuner, especially if you buy a custom DP tune.
Hink, how much would we have to scrape up for the SCT and a custom tune? I actually can read my codes I just havn`t had any. It`s very simple w/ the Predator.

I think you can get tunes at DPP/Innovative Diesel, not sure how much. It looks like DP Tuner charges $45 each, custom tunes $75. Seems like most are charging $100-$150 for custom tunes. There is a deal (group buy) on SCT tuner for a very good price, here is a link to a thread about this. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s...d.php?t=460261
The deal is only good until the end of today, 2-15-06. I'm just learning all this stuff too, look pretty interesting though.
Man, you`ve got me thinking heavily about that tuner after reading that thread. I`m calling Larry today for some prices. Last day huh? Maybe that`s agood thing if it`s a group buy, we should get the lowest quote today right? Darn I wish I saw that sooner to do some more investigating.

I know, I've been trying to dig up as much info as possible. Seems like a pretty sweet tuner. Wish I would have checked into this before I bought the Predator. If I do get the SCT, I will be able to do some testing/comparing of the two before I sell the Predator. Might be some good info for others.
I just checked DP Tuners site and they have added different pricing if you don't buy SCT tuner from them. They are $75 standard, $105 custom each. Bottom line, if you want DP Tuner to write your tunes for SCT, might as well get the tuner from them also. You won't save anything getting a cheaper price on tuner. As an alternative, Motorhaven will supply either "canned" SCT tunes or custom tunes at no additional charge. Other places may charge extra for custom tunes. Seems like a good deal to me. Maybe I'll just run my Predator and think about this for a while. Now I'm thinking about just getting a chip.
So What was your final answer? Stay with Diablo for now and add a chip. Maybe I`ll do the same instead of making a snap decision like I usually do. I guess with age comes some wisdom. We`ll see what haoens next week!

I'm going to think about it, I already have a tuner and If I buy the cheap tuner, the tunes will cost more. I would be spending more than the chip would cost. I'm sure my warranty is void with the mods I have now, so why not join Jody's chip club?!
I was astounded at the estimated cost of tunes from vendors that Diablosport uses, do you know why they cost so much more than the average custom tunes?
