I've noticed lately I can hear a faint sound I would describe as the sound caused by running your finger around the top edge of a wine glass. Sometimes I can hear it while at an idleing stop and upon easy acceleration to around 20 or 25. I don't think the noise is going away at 20 or 25 just that the engine noise covers it. Thanks in advance for any ideas.
Does putting it in park or neutral change anything?
Neutral didn't have an effect while moving or stopped. And park I don't know. It seems to come and go. The first thoughts I had was the compressor wheel (because of the thin metal sound) or the torque converter. I've tried reving while in neutral moving and stopped and it didn't have an effect.

Ok, so it doesn't seem to be in the transmission.
Hmmm, try disconnecting the alternator wire so it's not charging.
Oh, wait. Check your tensioner bearings. I'll bet one of them is drying out. I've heard that noise before on a lot of timing belt tensioners. It sounds like a low pitched bird chirp and will usually go up in pitch if you very slightly raise engine rpm
That sounds like a good idea Kwik. Can I lube it with something? And how would I check it, remove the cerpentine belt and turn the tensioner by hand?
And thanks for staying with me on this one. I'll let you know.
The other thought I was having was that a while back I put in a 1/4 wire mesh screen behind the grill. I was wondering if the air being drawn through the small holes was causing a kind of "whooeer" sound. I was going to take it out and see if the sound goes away.
