Big Orn - I didn't see in your posts which rotors you used. Were they the pre or post 3/99 rotors? I am assuming you used the pre-3/99 rotors with the post 3/99 hubs and that was why you were questioning this?
That is good to know. I have a brake job coming up and I am researching parts now. Makes me wonder if I should get the pre or post 3/99 rotors. Still have my orginial hubs (build date 7/98). I suppose I should go ahead and get the ones that match my hubs now and if the hubs need to be replaced I can use your information. Thanks so much for sharing and being FTE's experimental rig on this!!
Thanks for keeping us up to date Big Orn. I'm interested in your long term results. It's definately good for early 99 people to know they can get out of a jam if they need to. How many miles have you put on them?
Update:
After 4500 miles there is nothing to report...which is good news.
I will say again: If you decide to use the post 3/99 bearing assy, please assure that the caliper will have ample room to work freely. Not all tolerances for mating surfaces will be the same.
I'm with Dick. Thanks Big Orn!!! I did my brake job and replaced my rotors with the pre 3/99 ones. I will just follow your lead on this one if my hubs go bad. Thanks again.
I have almost 10K on this bearing with no troubles to report. As a matter of fact the tire that ran on that bearing had much less scalloping, almost none at all.
I will definitely replace the other bearing with the same setup.
I think I found the difference to be 1/8 in on the backspacing of the rotor from pre 99 to later .My problems started when I tried to fit new rotors on my 99 truck built in 98 ,the rotor sets to close to the caliper grinding my rotor into the bracket . I still need some rotors that fit with an 3.375 backspacing rather than 3.5 that it the problem .
I have been through 3 sets of rotors from summit and still cant find one that fits .it almost seems easier to upgrade to newer hubs but I just want some new rotors.
I have to replace my hub assembly on a ealy 99 F250 and want to make sure I am getting the right parts. So I can get a later hub assembly and use a rotor for that year too and all will be fine? Here are the parts I am looking at.
