The Sylvania Silverstars are not worth the glass they are made with! Osram Silverstars are the way to go! I have seen many comparisons on the various BMW forums and the Osrams are MUCH brighter, whiter and last a lot longer. I have seen them on Ebay and Ebay.co.uk all the time.
And I wouldn't rush into doing HIDs. Before you do, you have to make sure you have fixtures with good cutoff, thats not going to scatter the light everywhere.

That's why I mention the bosch lights,
They have a very high efficient pattern to them.
I had Marchal driving lights on my Volvo but the pattern was light a bowtie and on-coming people always flashed their lights at me.

I don't have that problem because the left side of the Bosch pattern flattens out.
