another 9" rear question

This is just for curiosity sake. What are the brass washers for on the 9". Why won't regular washers work?

another 9" rear question

if you are talkin about the bras washers on the front of the housing, they act as kind of a lock washer. the brass gets squished when you torque down the housing, and the washers expand into the grooves of the bolts and keep them from moving. hope this helps.
mike
ps, if you want to remove them, they are a pain in the ****.

You can say that again.
I believe it took me longer to remove the washers than it did to
disassemble the pumpkin. Had to use a 1/4" chisel.
Don't worry about replacing the washers, not necessary.
Use a dab of lock-tight on the nuts.
