Anyone have a favorite tool or brand? I just bought a Canadian Tire 14.4 volt Cordless 3KO Impact gun and charged it up. I want to try it out to see how much power it really has, it`s rated at 1050 inch pounds of torque. It`s got 1/2 inch square drive for sockets, can be used as a drill and is warranted for 5 years. If I don`t like it or don`t think it`s worth the money I can return it.
If it was a decent price, it is probably worth it! To get "name brand" tools arent cheap anymore! Kind of funny too, speaking of tools, was it you fom that said you were into plasma cutters and welders? Any idea where to get a small plasma from? I cut out a little more rust on my project last night with an acetylene torch, and found out exactly why I want a plasma!
Hmm... that 1050 inch pounds turns into 87.5 foot pounds when you think of it isn't much. Most cars require 90 foot pounds of torque on the lugnuts and trucks are 100-130 foot pounds. I like Mastercraft tools.
I get a lot of my tools from Princess Auto, they seem to be good as any other and if you break them, take them back, no questions asked. I keep looking at their mig welders maybe one of these days, but I did get one of the auto darkening helmets for $65.00, man is that nice, especially when you are laying under a swather welding.
The impact was on sale and if it`s not what I can use it is returnable.
I don`t expect it to replace my air/electric impacts but on the farm away from air/electricity even if I have to loose first by hand.
Princess Auto does have decent deals on tools but most of the time I prefer Sears or Canadian Tire for hand tools. I would be careful on the PA mig welders as replacement parts maybe hard to find. Canadian Tire has a great sale on Linclon migs at times, about $550 for 220 volt/150 amp. These are one of the best brands.
For cutting rust out a palsma is great but not cheap. I lucked out and got a smoking deal a slightly used one. Another good way to remove rust is a zip cut or a panel cutter when there is enough room.
I own a couple of cordless impacts. One is a 3/8 12v, and the other is a 1/2 18v. They are both snap-on, and cost about $400 each. The rating on the 12v is 120ft lbs, and the 18 is around the 200 ft lbs I believe. Love them both, use them every day, and hardly ever pick up an air impact anymore! Oh yeah, we take them racing with us, and it helps for quick tire changes on the go also. Every mechanic at our shop owns one. For us we like them at work because there is no dust blowing around like the air ones do from the exhaust, and no hose to drag around also. Works great on service calls when we don't have a source of air with us as well.
Woaw 1200 for a decent size, thats a tad more then I want to spend, but will spend it if I cant find it cheaper, but wow I didnt think they would be that much!
That`s just going by memory, it could be less. Mine will cut upto 3/16'' and would be worth about $1500 + tax new. This size also works well for automotive rust repair as it`s not too bulky.
