Here's the story: We got some major snow over the weekend. My wife went to start my truck which is a 2003 Ford E250 Van. She used a key that is my last ditch spare. The key works in the ignition, but if you use it and don't pay attention, the key stays in the START position. When I went out to start my truck this morning, it wouldn't turn over. I thought it was the battery but it is not.
I started looking and reading. I replaced the starter relay on the side near the battery and still nothing. My next guess is the starter. Could she have burned it out, but it getting stuck in the START position? Could she have damaged more then just the starter? I am going to take the starter out in the morning and see what it does.
I couldn't find any fuse that might be involved and the fuseable links to the starter relay appear to be good but i didn't test them.

I'm going to get out under the truck on Tuesday. We got 15 inches of snow so its not easy to do and its cold. I will check for voltage at the starter. What I can do is turn the key and check by myself. I hate to get a new starter if that isnt the problem but i couldn't think of anything else. I am almost 100% sure it was stuck in the Start position. My wife also said she didnt hear the defroster running. my guess was the engine was running and the key was stuck and nothing else worked. It looks pretty easy to remove the starter, just need to keep track of what wires go where. the one on my motorhome was easier, more room to work. I'd check the solenoid first when i got it out and see if the starter moves. if it does, then i have to figure out what else might have been damaged.
The solenoid on the fender well should click when you turn the key to start. There's two small wires on the solenoid one comes from the sw and the other goes to the starter. They both should be hot with the key to start pos.
