steering wheel cross referencing

I need to know if a steering wheel from a 1985/1986 f150 lariat will fit my 77 f150 .....what years can be interchanged???

I believe it will. If its a splined steering wheel, it would fit. Ford switched from spines in the cars in 1983, trucks too???

The wheel will probably fit, but I suspect you will have a problem with the turn signal release. The size where the two meet may be different also. ;-)

jowilker, Are you refering to the turn signal "cam"? I have been used to manually putting the signal back to the center after I make a turn. its been that way for the 7 years I have had the truck....do you think it should fit if i took the cam out ??

I didn't get far enough into it to even see the cam like the older trucks have. It is all different in there on the later models. The 76 is basicly the same as the 66, but this 79 hub where the horn, and turn signal met is a different design. The round plate is bigger too.

I looked at the back side of two wheels this afternoon, one 76, one 79 or newer. The newer will fit the shaft but the rim of the wheel and collor of the center are quite different from the other. The newer is much flatter. I wish I had thought to take my digital camera but I didn't.

thanks for checking jw. I can get a pic of this lariat wheel. I has the same shape, contours as the one in my truck. I am not really worried about the rim not looking to par. The one I have now has no horn pad and looks like S%$T
