Sorry, I don't know how I missed this one from earlier. Lots of OASIS requests lately, I guess.
polarbear is right- that's one of the SCARIEST OASIS reports I think I've ever seen: "Truck has no power, blowing white smoke...replaced turbo...CAC hoses replaced twice...replaced rear main seal..."

OUCH!
Did you see the head replacement, bent pushrods, tranny replacement... OMG, that's the truck from you-know-where. That's what I'm talking about- carfax will just show you whether it's been wrecked, how many owners, etc- that truck's been to heck and back.
hey if i was to give u my vin could some one run an oasis on my truck
If you've already got the truck, any Ford service rep can run the OASIS. Here's where I want to be careful- I want to help, and the truck in this thread is a good example. But I don't want to get asked by my service manager (or someone at Ford) why I'm running so many OASIS reports all of a sudden.
jake00an oasis report is basically work a ford dealer has done to the vehicle?
Oasis integrates the warranty history and TSB/recall list for any particular late-model Ford product. I think it's the single most useful tool when shopping for a late model used anything. Example- I hear a lot about why you should avoid '03-'04 PSD's. But when you run an Oasis on a 3 yr old truck, and see only minor (or often no) warranty claims, I think it's safe to say the truck's given good service, and should continue to do so. What you want to avoid is buying someone elses lemon- historically, if the car/truck has been trouble from day one, it never really quits. GM has the same database (VISS, vehicle inquiry service system), and also includes build sheets, etc.
Hey Guys,
Have 2003 7.3 PSD F250 CC. and LOVE IT!
Looking for an Excursion due to a growing family. Really want the diesel for boat and trailer towing. Have found two serious local contenders. Pulled CarFax on first choice, that report shows clean, but also shows several service calls at dealership during 2003. After reading all the horror stories on the 03's I dont want to go into a 30k crapshoot.
Any report would be more helpful than CarFax, but here's my VIN 1FMSU43P43EC48378
Can the dealer run and print this report for me? Might be some extra barganing power if needed. (Keep in back pocket)
Here's the vehicle:
Build date 03/2003 Excursion Limited, 6.0 PSD, loaded w/leather, dvd, all the goodies. 31k on the clock, one owner, very clean kept. Asking $30,995 Book value shows around 35-36k
If OASIS, CarFax, and long test drive show favorable.....would you consider it?
What should I expect $$$ for a mechanic to check out the truck?
Going for test drive tomorrow.......
Carfax is a very useful report- we live and die by those things. I want to know how many owners, how many states, and which states. The more states a car was registered in, the more chance of hocus-pocus on the title and the odo. Especially if it's been cycled through the Gulf-Coast (that was a potential snake-pit before Katrina).
The "service calls" showing on carfax are just outstanding recalls, and if they've been done. Any Ford dealer can run an OASIS- and I'd ask for one. It really isn't a bargaining chip- it's a deal maker/breaker. Caerfax isolates the potential problem rigs- accidents, buybacks, odo spins, etc. OASIS simply shows the service history as far as warranty claims go- an important piece of documentation. If the carfax and oasis is reasonably clean, I think the odds get stacked in your favor. Remember, any vehicle- new or used- is a crapshoot. you just want as much information as possible to make sure the house odds aren't stacked against you.
