any thoughts on this?

Right now I'm dragging a 40' car hauler behind a '96 F250 extended cab, long box, with a 351W. It does the job as long as I stay away from the mountains. I realize the trailer is a bit much for the 250 and would like to upgrade. I have an opprotunity to pick up a '96 350 dually, regular cab, PS, with a dump stake box extremely cheap. It had an underhood fire, concentrated on the driverside wiring harness and mastercylinder area. The cab is damaged in this area too. I know it got hot under the hood, both of the batteries look like they started to melt. Since my 250 has a "S" title, I was thinking about pulling the cab off of my truck and installing it on the 350 chassis.(or sell my truck, buying another cab elsewhere) I already have a buyer for the dump box. I'm not sure of the wheel base of the dump just yet, but it's long. I was thinking about building a stake bed for it because I dont' think my box will work. Both trucks are 4x4's. Any thoughts? I know it's alot of work, but I think I'm up to the task. Since the motor itself did not burn, should I have any concerns? Normally I stay away from burns, but this is too good of a deal!

I would not atempt it unless I had lots of money and lots of time. Items located on left hand side (drivers) under hood and in cab: fuse box and relays, IDM, ALL wiring harness connectors, brake master cylinder, brake booster, brake proportioning valve, brake lines, brake system sending unit, PCM, all gauges and instrument cluster, fuel tank transfer switch, light switch, steering colomn wiring harness(truns signals, widshield wipers, highbeam switch, ignition switch, etc.).

And the list goes on and on and on. Not to mention the batteries, did they leak acid and what damage did this cause? What plastic parts under the hood are warped and no longer any good (wiring harness connectors, CCV, air intake, etc.)

From working on two vehicles in the past that had wiring harness fires in them (both for family) I will NEVER do it again. The electrical nightmare from both of those were enough for a life time.

Good Luck on what ever you decide.
