leak?

The other day i looked on the under body of my truck and noticed a couple odd things. First of all, i observed oil on the bottom of the transfer case, i think its the transfer case (it is right next to the oil pan). Secondly, i saw white streeks on the oil pan. It appears that something is dripping from somewhere above. Being that this is a "brand new truck" what in the hell could this be. I hope it is a break in thing or something. Should i take it back to the dealer? Any imput?

Dealer !!!! rule Number 1... NO WARRANTY- no drive an 04/05/06 when the free bee`z are up dump it. We have 3 05`s here, one is a dream to dive, the others have been a night mare.. that is why we have signed on to the class action being organized for the ahem.... disgruntled owners of 6.0 diesel owners here in canada...(hope that the boys down south do the same) If there is a leak make` em fix it.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's right! SUE! That will make you feel great! And by the way tell everyone that bought one of these trucks that they bought the biggest POS that Ford ever produced. Give it a rest PLEASE!

First of all, read the forum rules and you will find that soliciting for your class action suit is not permitted. Secondly, there is a thing called a warranty. USE IT. Yes, there is an oil leak TSB. The technician will inject dye into your crankcase oil then check about a week later with a UV light for leaks. They found two leaking seals on my engine, replaced promptly under warranty. They put me in a rental vehicle at no charge.

Nothing is perfect, and this engine is certainly not the epitomy of perfection. It is a complicated piece of machinery that many dealer techs are clueless in servicing. THAT is the true cause of many of these problems. Throwing parts at a problem instead of diagnosing the underlying issues is what drives owners such as yourself up the wall.
But, as we say in the South "pitching a hissy fit" isn't going to change things or make you any happier. It just makes you look like the north end of a southbound mule.

Good advise NOT. Don't get sucked into someone eles battle because you saw a drip and some white stuff. The drip maybe assembly lube and is normal .The white stuff could be road grime or salt. Take it to the dealer and have them check it out before you go off thinking the worst. Check the ground were you park the truck and see if there is a spot if there isn't any I would clean the area and watch and see if it comes back. The dealer will use dye to trace the leak if there is one and will be able to fix it.

Listen to rray take it to the dealership that’s what the warranty is for. Be selective in which dealer you take it to. Not all dealer’s service departments are equal especially when it comes to diesels. Just because they sale it doesn’t mean they are good at working on it. The dealership that is closest to me only has one diesel tech and he only works 3 days a week. He is not even very good like most he will just start replacing parts according to what the book or the computer is telling him. I usually drive 30 miles to another dealership that has 6 diesel techs and does a large volume of diesel work. The guys there are very experienced and knowledgeable. The one mechanic they have can a lot of the time just listen to the engine and tell what’s wrong, it’s amazing the guy eats, lives, and breathes diesels. Like I said be selective I believe a lot of the buy backs associated with the 6.0 could have been avoided if they had a good experienced mechanic working on the truck.

Good post, Batgeek! Even if I weren't mentioned in it. I couldn't have said it better.

I had the same problem with the t-case in my 03 shortly after I got it. The dealership put in a new inner seal and gasket and hasn't leaked since. I am not sure what the white streaks could be.

The white streaks are coolant residue. Likely from the EGR coolant tube.

Yet another issue with the 6.0 many times discussed here.

Had my tube and seal replaced on the '04 with "upgraded service parts" from Ford.

And the TSB and recall list gets bigger and bigger, longer and longer.
