They'll wise up when they get their first mortgage. Unless they can live in Mommy's basement for a couple of years...
I will admit that some of those kids do amazing things with next to no displacement. When I was young, a "hot rod" got about 3 mpg. They have relatively fast cars that get about 30mpg.
I, on the other hand, am happy with my relatively fast truck that could carry a few of their cars at once - and still get around 15mpg. Then again, maybe I'm wrong...

I don't think you're wrong. When I was younger I had a 1990 Toyota Supra Turbo, and thought it was an awesome car. I had a lot of fun with that thing. It wasn't super fast, only about 250hp with what I had done to it, but quick enough to get me into trouble. I thought I was doing good to have 8-10psi of boost in that thing. Now that I've gotten older (I wouldn't say grown up though ), I like my PSD a lot bettter. I miss my sports cars, especially the '96 Mustang Cobra I had for several years, but you can't do anything with those cars. When it snows, you're staying home. If you want to haul or tow something, you're calling a buddy. My PSD is nearly as fast in a straight line as either one of those cars was, maybe faster, and it has more capability to do work that I usually am able to use. I guess that's why I've gone to owning a truck and riding and racing motorcycles for my thrills.
In 1984 I bought myself a 1974 Datsun 260Z. I added a Jim Cook crank and cam, slanthead pistons, triple Weber carbs and an Ansa free-flow exhaust with an msd ignition. The thing sounded somewhat like a Ferrari and I was clocked at 155mph. Unfortunately I was clocked by a cop. I think I just paid that off about 5 years ago. I think today about that and how that day I was barely able to keep the car b/w the lines on the highway because I had no tail or air dam/spoiler and how I had no fear.
So, I criticize these kids as a former ricer. We couldn't order parts off the net back then. You had to wait for the catalog, save your money, order it and wait the 3 weeks for delivery. Then hope all the parts were there. Finding a metric bolt back then was impossible.
Oh, and a onboard computer was a slow calculator, so you could figure how much overtime you had to work to replace the tire you were burning off the back wheels.
