I have a 99 F-150 4x4 5.4L. The truck has 45k on it. I just had the 30k service done. I have noticed now that when I select reverse or drive my transmission takes longer to engage than it did before I had the fluid changed. I would say it takes about 1.5 seconds to engage. With the old fluid, my transmission would engage almost immediately. I guess I am wondering if this is normal?
Or maybe no one has seen this problem before so rather than give you bad information they didn't give you any at all.
Changing the fluid shouldn't make any difference.
Did they use the correct fluid? If your truck has the 4R100 it uses Mercon, if it has the 4R70W it uses Mercon V.
If they replaced the filter did they use the correct one for a 4X4 and not a 4X2?
Did the service include cleaning the battery terminals? If so it may take a little while for the PCM to relearn and it may not shift the same until it does.
My 98' f150 4x4 auto 4R70W does the same thing. I had the trans fluid changed and new filter. Then i had it power flushed. No different...it did it before and after i changed the fluid. I just deal with it Although it did take away the shudder i had between 35-40mph.
Kingranch,
Thanks for the tip ...however, I had a sense of security with bringing my truck to a ford dealer. Lesson learned. Lets hope it's a lesson without a damaged tranny.
Yes, you should have a sense of security in the job being done right by taking it to the dealer. We all learn lessons at one time or another. I hope that everything continues to go good for you.
I had an episode with my local dealer not tranny related though, I took my E-250 in for a tuneup and they gave it back later that day I notice my windows going up slow so it really didn't register at that time next morning I go out to start my van and clickity click, put the charger on and it fires off so it got me thinking and sure enough they left the plug off of the alternator DING DONGS, it's a good thing it didn't happen when my guys had the van somewhere because they would have never looked at it and I would have had a nice tow bill :-( Different dealer who serviced my F-150 after a tranny service says to me that the drain plug on the TC is stripped and that I would need to pull the tranny to repair, states it is in there and not leaking but it will need a fix, I look at him with a smirk and say you are the only people who have touched that truck, all I got was a blank stare :-( DumbaZZ
