ok i bought new brake pads to put on my bronco II. Well i have the wheels off and i am stumped as to how to get the calipers off? The only 2 bolts i see on the whole assembly are used to hold the tin dust shield to the spindle. There are is a pin looking thing on the top and bottom of the caliper but i don't wanna drive them out unless i'm sure they hold in the caliper. Anybody know what i'm talking about? It's a 4wd whether or not that matters i dunno but i'll throw it in there anyway.
Mine came right out my just tapping them with a plastic / hard rubber hammer. at first it seems you have to squeeze them, but for the most part they will collapse on their own. then I just inserted a flat tip punch to knock it out.
Try not to use a screw driver on just one tab, it will put all the force on one tide and will bend the tab inward. also don't try to drive something in the center, I'm not sure what it is in there but it's quite soft.
once you get 'em out you can pop a flat tip screw drive in the top and pry them off. It may be snug if you have not changed brakes in a while.
