I did a drive about that length when I first got my 04. I just made sure to drive at different speeds and RPM's. I am pretty sure thats what it says in the manuel. We took two trucks (9 people), and I took the lead so I could vary my speed. I just didn't use the cruise very much. Levi
Actually, that is the best thing you can do for the truck. Just vary your speeds every so often. I assume that you are not towing anything. Remember to let the engine idle for a while (five to ten minutes is plenty) anytime that you stop for a break so the turbo can cool down. Pace yourself, you want to drive at various engine rpms so you will be driving as slow as 50 at times. Don't be afraid to gun it at times either and just let off, then let the engine bring your speed back down. Its not the speed that your after, its the various RPM's that you want, so you may even try using different gears to accomplish this. By the time you get there, you can drive normally on the way back if you want to.
If it was me, I would change the oil when I got there also. But that is up to you. If you do your own it could be a problem doing it down there, so change it when you get back. You just want to elimanate the various metal particles floating around left over from the factory machining.
I did a trip from Va to Fla the first day I owned my 04 and changed the oil as soon as I got back. Total trip 2500 miles. Today 40K and still running strong.
My 06 6.0 CC lariat 4X4 had 770 miles when I left for California from Southeast Georgia. Changed oil and rotated tires while I was out there. Got back with 9,200 miles!! I had no problems!!
That drive would be great for the truck. I had around 1,000 miles on my 03 and I drove from Fairbanks, Alaska to Kansas and back. I put around 10,000 miles on the truck. I think that could be why I don't have a lot of problems with my truck. A lot of folks don't get the chance to get out and put some miles on their truck. They do a lot of stop and go driving, which isn't as good on the engine as highway miles.
