How does A/C affect the defroster?

The A/C on my truck doesn't work right now because of a coolant loss. The clutch on the compressor will come on and go off continuously. I don't want to cause any further damage to the compressor unit or anything, but I also need the defroster to work. Question is, can I continue to use the defroster eventhough the clutch on the compressor keeps cutting on and off, or do I need to get the system fixed ASAP? Thanks for any clarification on how this system works (together).

Pull the electrical connector off the compressor clutch; that'll keep it from cycling until you get the A/C fixed. You won't have dehumidification in defrost until you get 'er fixed.
