TFI Distributor Questions
The Haynes manual says something about aligning the vane and vane switch stator when installing the distributor. What are the vane and vane switch and where are they?
Question #2
There is a scribe/knotch at the base of the distributor and there is also a mark on the block near the base of the distributor. Are these markings supposed to be lined up to eachother once the timing is set?
Question #3
If the timing is set and the markings on the base of the distributor and the block are not lined up, does that mean that I am off a tooth (or more) and that I must lift the distributor and turn the gear, reinstall, reset timing and check markings and repeat if need be?
Thanks

As far as the Haynes manual, burn it. I would not have one or go by one.
Get a FORD Shop Manual for you Truck.
My distributor has a notch at the base and there is also what looks like a punch mark on the block. They look like they were done by hand. The van is a 1988 and the distributor is a TFI.
Where is the best place to get a Ford shop manual?
Thanks Subford

What engine do you have, the above information was for a V-8.
If you have a V-8 then the answer is Yes and then you would pull out the SPOUT and take a timing light and set it to 10* BTDC.
Helm...never heard of it...do they have a website?
http://www.helminc.com/
Helm supplies all of The FORD Motor Co. with all of their Car and Truck Manuals, Diagrams and Training Manuals. That is where all of the dealers get their shop manuals.
The Manuals are new from Helm ($$$) and of course used from eBay.
