Noisy Injector problem
I have had my 85 PSD 7.3ltr auto tranny for just over two years now and I am just baffled at this problem ........ On any given day my trucks runs beautifully ..... engine runs quietly and smooth the next day it sounds like the injectors are not getting enough lubrication, they are extreemly loud and sharp, there is no misfiring just loud sharp knocking in the engine... It almost certainly sounds like the injectors but I could be wrong .the problem just comes and goes. it may run quietly for a week and then the next three days its loud enough to wake up the neighbourhood......... I treat my fuel with DieselKleen most of the time but it makes no difference wether I use it or not, The engine temperature makes no difference either it runs the same on a cold morning or a hot day ...... I use Castrol CDX diesel grade oil 40 wt. and change every 4 to 5 thousand miles I've used other types of oil and still no change.... If I had bad injectors the problem should be consistent but all the injectors working fine one day and all messing up on another day dont sound right .......... Any ideas ??

sounds like injection control pressure (ICP)is getting changed, check for shorts in icp sensor wire. Sensor is on top of the drivers side head towards the front, i beleive there is 3 wires total in harness.
