Just south of the Nation's Capital, Washington, DC.
Current temp: 32° F
It has been snowing for the last 4-1/2 hours.
The streets are just wet. No accumulation, yet. Grassy areas are starting to accumulate just a little bit. Maybe 1/2". (I can still see grass, in other words.)
The weather forcasters say that we will get between 10-15", before it all ends on Sunday.
So, with that in mind, here is what is suggested for all of those that are 'locals' in and around Washington, DC:
ABANDON YOUR CARS NOW!!!!!!!!!
I can hear it now, "THE Blizzard of 2006!" Nothing like headlines.
they are sayin 4-8 here but some how i dont see that happening seeing as we already have 6.5" and they said the hardest is going to be from 6pm-3am i had to pull my dad up the hill to day (thats wat he gets for swearin by auto hubs) and the tricky part is actaully getting in the drive way we live on a mountain and our house is on the down hill side and its pretty down hill and there were a few tence times when the front end of the jeep (i know i know but its the only street legal 4X4 we have i need to get my truck inspected) got off the edge.
Around here folks are acting like we have never had a foot of snow at one time. I couldn't believe the grocery store parking lots today.
Of course, I have a valid reason to be out in the snow tonight. My baby is due tomorrow and I figure he/she will come just about the time the storm peaks. That's okay by me - I'm dying for a reason to put the 250 in 4x4 and break down some snow banks....
Actually there is something you obviously didnt know...Tomorrow is National French Toast Day. You see After every major Snowstorm..the Goverment secretly announces this fact. Only a select group of "Special" People are told about this fact and they race to the stores to buy all the Eggs, Milk, and Bread that they can. Now I have heard about this through some chatter in the winds...and through my own personal investigating I have also found out that while you are making the french toast...you are to preform the ancient right of head protection...This is done by wrapping your head in approximately 2-4 rolls of Toilet paper. This is also why you see these select few also purchasing TP.
I just thought you all should know about this before you go and criticize the "Special" people for buying all of these things before a major snowstorm. They are just getting prepared for the Party!!!
8:07 AM here in SE Pennsylvania. The tree branches are hanging heavy, the snow is about 12 inches deep, and it is still snowing hard. It is a very interesting sight to see. In fact, the snow is a beautiful scene indeed.
The best thing about this storm is the peace and quiet it brings, I stood outside and couldn't hear any cars, trucks, or the usual noise that humans tend to produce.
The birds in my backyard are trying to get some seeds from the feeders, but it seems that most of the birds are more interested in using the feeders as shelter. They are hunkered close together on the perch, fluffed up, and sitting low. I'll clear some snow later, and throw some seed on the ground, the next few weeks will be tough on the birds.
it's 8:21 am here 924x2150 and we got almost 8 inches. the weather man is saying 3" in an hour. Yaaaaaya. More play time. The International Airport a mile away has no delays.hummm whoes going out on a flight .About a half and hour ago the only thing I saw on the road was a fire truck blaring down the street. I don't envy the families house they are off to, or the fire fighters for having to go out in it to battle a fire. I enjoy the blizzards because the wish I was the fast and furious car drivering morons are off the road out front. Ok time for me to play my role in man against the elements.

HAHAHA...that's great!!
I woke up about 5am this morning, and there was all kinds of thunder and lightning. The wind was howling too. Looks like we got almost a foot here in the city and it's still going. Good thing I don't have anything to shovel.

Okay then, the second best thing must be watching the idiots on or local newscasts! I'm in my family room in West Chester just waiting for my wife to get out of bed so that we can have some breakfast before I go out and snow blow the driveway. It's 9:54AM, and it's still snowing. It's slowed down, but it's still snowing.
I'm not sure that I'll be making french toast though. We only have 1/2 gallon of milk, 3/4 of a loaf of bread and 9 eggs. With all of this snow, that isn't nearly enough to last me until July when I'll be able to get out again!
