Aaron, the only trick is to not overtighten the pan bolts or the gasket will tear. Sounds like you have the situation well under control so far. I would recommend you get a shop manual and an inch/pound torque wrench for future use though. good luck..

When you get the new gasket it will probably be folded up. Set it out the night before on something flat and put some weight on it. If it's cork I spritz it with water first. Then after it's flat you can use sealer to stick it to the pan. Use more weights. After it's dry it's easier to attach it. You might as well get some kitty litter or oil dry as draining gets messy.

Aaron, i do recall most fords had a drain plug in the torque converter. it faces front and yes the manual should give you all info you will need.
