I am wondering how many of you have your truck lit up light the big rigs and what type of lights you are using and where they are. If anybody does, have any pics? I got the urge to put lights on my truck, but I dont want to overdo it.
i know Cat_man_963 has the lights in the lower valance on his truck. Cookie88 is the one with the lighted ford emblem which looks pretty good if i say so myself.
I ordered mine with the cab lights. Next add on was the Truck-lite ID light bar under the tailgate, soon after that, I replaced the incandescent bulbs on the light bar with Truck-Lite LEDs.
That wasn't enough. The truck needed lights on the running boards. This mod took a little time, but turned out very nice. 5 Truck-Lite LED's per side, installed behind the running board with only the face of the LED protruding through a rectangular opening.
That was good for a while. Then Ford had to start equipping the Super Duty's with lighted mirrors. You guessed it, theres been a set of those added now.
In your pics you had two burlwood covers for the switch pannel and the AIC. What is the AIC and what does it do? Also, did you design and create those boxes, if so where do you mount them in the truck? I sure would like to see a pic of that.
i have 3 Grote M1 series lights on each running board and am getting 9 cab lights put on monday(all lights are leds)the out side two will be turn signals, been around semis all my life and figured what the heck, have plans to get two more high mount brake/cargo lights and mount them on each side of the one thats up there, the out side two will be turn signals as well and the very outside clear lights will have blue leds behind them and be wired in with the rest of my blue lights, have an electric air horn/siren orderd(150w) and have a red dome light too

AIC is the Aux. idle controller aka APCM Aux Power control module. It allows you to use a PTO or elevate the idle of your truck for extended idleing to prevent wetstacking. Wetstacking is when the truck is idleing at normal rpms and the fuel isnt being completely burned and leaving unburnt fuel in there, which is not good for diesels. Someone else will chime in soon to explain it a little better than I.
Check out my galleries for both my '95 and my '02. I did both trucks up with 2" clearance lights under the bumper with a piece of stainless steel. I switched to led's on the '02 but they are a lot more money than the regular bulbs. I am pretty happy with the appearance though.

The AIC (idle controller) is a Ford option that could be ordered with the truck or purchased afterwards. It is intended to be used for increasing the RPM when the vehicle is stationary. It can be used to keep the engine warmer & heater working better in the winter, better A/C in the summer. The charge protection feature is for a vehicle that has a large load on the battery, such as an ambulance or fire truck with the emergency lights on, and the vehicle is stationary. In that mode, the RPM increases and decreases as the battery voltage goes up and down. The PTO option is for something like a wrecker.
The AIC is a factory built item. I obtained the burlwood cover from a fella on the east coast that had a bunch of then made specifically for the Ford AIC.
The box with the switches is a Radio Shack project box. I installed the switches in the box. I had that fella that made the AIC cover get me a chunk of the burlwood cover so I could match the AIC.
The AIC Kit comes with a bracket to mount it under the dash. I purchased an aftermarket bracket that repositioned the AIC a bit closer to the drivers side. I made the bracket that the switch box is mounted on. That bracket is attached to the AIC bracket.
Neil, Your truck looks awesome, that what I want to do with the running boards and maybe the valance too.
I went to a Logging Equipment Show today and as I was browsing the vendors booths, I discovered that Truck-Lite has some COOL new LED lights. They look like they may be perfect for adding to your truck. It looks like you can get a single lamp or a group of three in a harness.
I added 6 lights under the door and three under the tail gate, I like it, original idea was to have the three under each door turn on when open the door, haven't got that far, right now all turn on with door open or running lights. Nice to see what you are about to step in/on. Pics in gallery under lighting
