99f350sd, Amen! There's a reason the detroit locker is in every rock crawler on the planet... YOU CANT BREAK THE THINGS! Worth every penny when you can find a good place to do the install.

The install is pretty easy cause you don't have to set up your gears usually. Its made to the same specs as the stock diff. You just pull it apart take the ring gear off and the tone ring and put new bearings on the new diff and install the gear and ring and bolt it up. Of course you should check the play but usually there's no change.

Hey Cajun...
See if you can come up with someone who has a Detroit Locker in an F250/350 or even a Dodge or Chevrolet, and drive it. I agree with Cheese Stick, I have had numerous street driven vehicles with 'old school' Detroits, including two of my current trucks, my '03 SD 6.0 Shortbed, and a Toyota with a Small Block Chevrolet. The relative short wheelbase and light weight of the Toyota make it very noticeable when turning, but in the Super Duty I rarely notice anything. About the only time I can tell it is there is in the rain/snow and I stand in the throttle hard, and once in a very great while a noticeable 'clunk' when accelerating from a stop. I have installed several of these in friends' trucks, and even the guys who don't drive hard love them. I am sure the 7000 plus pounds and long wheelbase contribute to their driveability, and the Detroit's can still be had for $550-$600 for the Sterlings.

I guess I should keep reading.... like 99f350sd says..... "I wouldn't put anything other than a Detroit Locker in the rear of a Super Duty"... couldn't have said it better myself.

Theres some black magic in CORRECTLY installing a rear gear set / differential that only about 1 in 20 garages seems to have a CLUE how to do! BE CAREFULL of who you have install one!!!!

ford never used lockers. but they did have a front and rear L/S option after 88. before that only rear l/s was a option.

I've had true traks on my Jeeps for years and they work very well. I've also had Detroit Lockers on one of my trucks and it's scarry in the rain. I'll stick with true taks if I have to install one. On my '03 F250 I'm less than happy with the factory LS. But I touch the brakes and get the rear end to hook up and I get through it. I'll take note of the oil and posi-lube when I change the oil next time though
