just curious.has anyone ever mixed one gallon of synthetic oil 5w40 with
regular 15w40 when doing a oil change.i was thinking about doing this
with the rotella t. just curious. no flames or anything please.
I have done this with Rotella-t my past 3 oil changes and it has worked great. It really helped with cold starts without having the expense of putting all synthetic in. I remember reading in a magazine where this question was ask and a representative from Shell said that it was fine to do this with Rotella because the oils have the same base properties.

i wouldn't mix them. about 20% of the oil stays in the engine when you drain it, oil in the pump, HPOP and all of the oil galleries and the injectors. short of a teardown, its impossible to get it all out for a change.
anyway, i used 15w-40 Rotella T in my truck and liked it, but i had a romp three or four times upon startup, even when warm. we run 15w-40 Rotella T in our other powerstrokes. i just switched to 5w-40 Rotella synthetic in the deep blue bottle, and LOVE it. i won't go back to 15w-40. it completely eliminates the romp romp romp and builds pressure faster. less wear.
