Fan Replacement

1986 Bronco II Eddie Bauer. I just replaced the radiator with the 91 explorer. I was wondering if anyone knows if the fan from the 4.0 will fit on the 2.9? I know placement is the same, but i wasnt sure if attachments was. thanks.

Fan only or fan and fan clutch assembly? Fan clutch won't be interchangeable: nut on a 2.9 is left hand threaded, on a 4.0 is right hand threaded. Whether a 4.0 fan will bolt onto a 2.9 fan clutch, I don't know (yet).

So is the Explorer fan alot bigger then a BII ...if so its a bonus. Heck if it don't fit maybe go to a flex with the Rad ..... So that rad fit in good ...Well thats good I guess it has more flow and stuff then the BII rad which can only help to keep running temp lower like B II's like...TR

Went well. Interesting method for the upper radiator hose, but it works great. Tested it out this weekend by driving all over out in the country with 6 people loaded in it. 75 miles later, and a load of rough road, not a leak.
Thanks for asking.

The fan is the same diameter, but the ends of the blades have an extra angle bend to help move air. noticed it when i was pulling the radiator out of the 91 explorer. Just was wondering if the fan and clutch fit the 2.9 engine, or if the fan would fit on my clutch. Thanks.

no fan clutch is different b2's are left-hand thread some call it reverse thread.
explorer is right-hand thread. if you can manage to to remove fan from explorer and fit it to your bronco2 fan clutch there you go.

Thanks for the help. might try that. Noticed when doing the radiator swap small cracks in my fan. Didnt have the time to replace it right then. the way it always seems to go.

My better half has the Explorer today, so I can't check. The two fans are set to spin in opposite directions, aren't they? Even if it fits, wouldn't a 4.0 fan on a 2.9 be spinning the wrong way, trying to push air backwards through the radiator?

Explorer came home. Sure enough, the 4.0 fan is built to spin CCW, the 2.9 fan spins CW. So, even if it does fit on the front of a 2.9, the 4.0 fan would be spinning the wrong way.

good prices on radiators

just some food for thought. i stuck a pine tree limb thru my radiator(86 bro II) about a year ago and the local parts shops wanted my arm and two legs for a new one. a buddy of mine told me to call a wholesale place with the phone # of 1-800-radiator. i did and they sent me a brand new OE radiator for around $130 bucks to my front door the next day. it wasnt a rebuilt one. and it has a unconditional lifetime warranty, no questions asked. they are the best place to get any radiator from in my opinion. also found out later that most parts houses get their radiators from them as well. save some money by cutting out the middle man when you can.
