Valve Adjustment Question

Does anyone have any information/links about the step by step adjusting the valves on a '74 460 with roller rockers with hydraulic lifters?? any results would be greatly appreciated, thanks

I'm assuming you have stud mounted, fully adjustable rockers. The way I've always done it is like this...

Install the rockers, push rods and guides as usual.

Adjust them snug by feel (no serious play as you turn the motor over by hand - DO NOT crank the engine with the starter).

Once they're all snug, start the motor. Make sure all rockers are silent...no rocker chatter. Loosen each rocker until it makes noise, then tighten until it stops. Warm it up to operating temperature.

Once the engine is at full operating temperature, start at #1 - loosen the retaining nut until you hear chatter. Tighten until the chatter stops and then tighten 3/4 of a turn down.

Repeat for the rest of the valves.
