I've got an 05 F150 XTL with less than 5k miles on it. It has had a vibration since day one. My dealer has tried balancing the drive shaft, new tires etc. all to no avail. I saw a lot of posts on vibration issues but they all seemed to be about a year old.
Has anybody had this issue lately and what was the outcome?
welcome to the forum!! there are many many posts as of recent, as this is prob. the no. one issue with the new body style. even though mine is smooth as silk, (1200 miles) '05 XLT scab, i've been reading about this just to get a heads up in case mine starts to do this. i've read about everything folks and dealers have tried, even buy back situations. really some ticked off folks out there on this matter. i dont think i saw any common denominator, theres been issues w/tires,(flat spots) rear axles, driveshafts, emergency brake sticking, (thats and easy one to fix), even dealers hanging weights under the frame to shift the resonant vibrations, and dont remember what else. there are TSB's on this. i practically guarantee you every dealer in the nation has had a taste of this. i've seen a few posts where they say the bed vibrates unbelievably, & dances, over railroad tracks., by watching in rear view mirrow. it does sound like dealers are guessing at the problem, because Ford, to my knowledge, does NOT have a 100% fix for this yet. i personnally think the engineers are probably scratchin their head still trying to figure this out, or there not saying what the root cause is. There maynot be an answer, 100% sure fix. But if you lucky enough to smell something nasty after a road trip, then its your e.brake sticking. The ebrake shoes puts out a horrible smell if they stick while driving. Keep hangin around....also you might try diff. dealers to see what they say.....paul
I agree with Paul (for the most part) however I have owened ford trucks sense 1985, and I can honestly say that there has been vibration problems as far back as 1999 (the first new ford truck I bought, which had a horrible vibration in the driveline) and was never cured. Then again in 2001 with new xlt, also a vibrator, and a smoaker on startup. Next came 2004 lariat (RAV= re-acuaired vehicle buyback kinda like lemon law) And now the 2005 lariat which I took because I got tired of fighting with all the idiots at ford and the dumbazz dealers, that could care less if they ever sell me another vehicle. Well guess what, they win, I won't buy another ford.
Oh, and throw in a new 98 dodge ram 1500, talk about lack of customer service!!

The vibration is one of the many problems I have had out of this truck. It is at the dealer right now for the 32nd day and it is not fixed. I called Ford Motor Co. yesterday and told them how unhappy I was and I wanted a new truck. They put in a request to buy back the vehicle and I also have submitted lemon law paper work, so the BBB is sending that to Ford too.
The dealer told them they couldn't fix it.
This is the 4th time this problem has tried to be fixed (balancing tires 2 x, new rear end, new tires).
It is the 6th time it has been back to the dealer for repairs.
If they did offer me another one I don't think I would take it.
I would be afraid I would have the same problem.
I have barely had the truck 6 months.
cdfan, way to stay on them about the vibes, I believe most stealerships hope you buy their lines of it is normal, it's within tolerences, or any number of lines to get you from pursuing beyond the initial complaint.
I have had the vibe issue since I bought my truck new a year ago. Finally got the rear axle to quiet down after countless trips to the dealer (axle whine). Lets just say when I graduate from graduate school their may be a Toyota, or Chevrolet on my future (yeah, yeah I know they have problems too). I hate to feel this way though but I have had it with the blithering idiots at Ford dealerships. Even more unfortunate is that I was pulling for the "home team" when I bought this truck e.g. FordMoCo. I have been terribly unhappy pretty much based just on service. I have said it before here and I will say it again, My 92 is twice the truck that my new 04 is. Good luck with the vibes cause your going to need it. I have got 300lbs in the bed just to keep all 4 wheels planted on the ground at 45-55 mph! My wife says it shakes the fat on her back, not that she would want me telling that, but the truck is a disgrace.
-4 ring and pinion gear sets
-1 fully assembled new axle with gears included - pulled some teeth and sold my first born for this one!
-all new cab mounts
-2 new driveshafts
-2 new tires
-4 road force balancings
-axle shims 2 & 1 degree increments installed and removed
-1 anti vibration damper kit
--300 lbs. of sand - works better than all of the above combined!
