Group Buy

Many of you, like me, are in the market for a tuner or chip, and you're not quite sure what's the best for your truck. You also want the best bang for your buck. I was dead set on buying a Diablo Predator (thinking it was the best out there) until I spoke with Larry (a.k.a. Fordtrkpuller) at Discount Power Parts (one of FTE's Sponsors). What he told me was that SCT XCalibrator and Xcalibrator 2 were way better than anything out there in terms of overall performance and usability. It goes above and beyond anything out there. Best of all, this tuner is FORD SPECIFIC, which means that this tuner isn't available for Dodge or Chevy. It also means that custom tunes can be written for specifically for your truck(by Erik) and e-mailed for you to download to your tuner. Each custom tune is tested by Erik and/or Larry to ensure the best. Checkout the group buy here . The tuner is normally sold for $479 on SCT's website, so the more that get in on this, the better the price. (Larry PMed me earlier today and I don't think I'm allowed to post the prices he told me about.) Either way, I'm getting one and you guys should too. If you have any questions, you can either send a PM (Fordtrkpuller) or call Larry at 724-462-3669 or 724-272-1539. I'm glad I did!

Did you ask for a price? I'd say it came a(big)bit. I'm looking under the seat cushions for change right now.

Whats the difference between the generic tunes from SCT and the tunes offered by Motorhaven, Innovative Diesel, ATS, or whoever? Is the horsepower the same? SCT cant even tell me the HP/TRQ #'s for their generic tunes but if you call these other companies they give you dyno numbers, so are they the same tunes? Im all for a good deal so long as I know what I am getting. Anyone out there know?

Does seem like it "could" be a good deal. I especially like the ability to store 3 different settings on the SCT tuner.

1. Economy (87 octane) mode
2. Towing mode
3. Power (high octane) mode

Seems pretty cool to me. But the price would really need to drop from the $479 figure...for me to take advantage.

I've spoken with him as well. The price seems good. Too good to be true. What's the catch?

Has there been anyone who has had warranty issues with this tuner? I am worried about something going wrong with the truck and the dealer telling me to take a hike when I bring it in.

Warranty issues aren't a problem. If you de-tune the truck before you take it in, they can never tell it was there. It's rare that anyone has engine or tranny trouble with tuners or chips. They may not like the way the transmission shifts with the tuner, but that's what most tuners have adjustments for. The only reason problems arise are because people tow when they're not supposed to or they don't have the proper equipment handle the power gains. (i.e larger exhaust system, intake, and guages) The engine and transmission are capable of properly keeping themselves cool even when things get a little hot. You just have to have the right stuff to handle the power.

If you found this informative, please add to my reputation in the upper right hand corner.
