Transporting Truck

I need to tow my 1970 F250 (automatic) about 400 miles. I just bought it and it hasn't been driven in a while, so I'm thinking that driving it probably isn't the best idea. The question is whether I should tow it with a dolly or rent a uhaul so that all 4 wheels are off the ground. Thoughts?

If you tow it with the rear wheels on the ground, just remove the driveshaft and plug the tailshaft housing.

Depends on the difference in rental between a dolly and a trailer, if not much more I would go with the trailer. That way it`s secure on the trailer, load up and go. If towing be sure to have some tools and a spare tire/jack.

Not many places have the large dollies that would fit a truck anymore.
Even U-Haul's trailers are pretty short. A stock F-100 just barely fits on one and that's with the rear tires right on the edge.
Rental difference is minimal.

I'd go with the trailer. I t doesn't cost much more and it'll be much easier to manuver. You also won't have to be concerned about old tires on the F250. Just make sure the Uhaul trailer is in good shape before you leave the yard with it. I've rented a few and I've seen that some are in much better shape than others. I had one with a flat when I picked it up, make sure all the lights work, and don't forget the brakes!!
