Need a steering upgrade

I've been having problems with my steering. I won't go into all the details but I need a new steering pump. I have seen aftermarket pumps on ebay for the diesel but I have a V10. I don't know for sure but I'm pretty sure that there is a difference between the gas and diesel pumps. I wondering if somebody can confirm this and, if it is so, point me in the direction of an upgrade? I don't mind running stock replacement parts but if there is something better that that out there I'd rather spend money on that. Also I'm running a ARB steering box. It's basically a rebuilt '99 box. I've blown the seals in this box twice now. Is there better seals out there other than the part store specials?

Somebody, anybody!! I know I can't be the only one with these problems. I know most folks that drive Super Duties don't ever work them or four wheel. But there are a bunch of you that do. I can't be alone out here! Somebody help me.

I guess nobody is 4 wheeling as hard as I am, since I'm the only one breaking steering components!!! If y'all think what I'm doing to my SD is bad, y'all should see the stuff that I go though with my full size Jeep!

Steering Upgrade

Try pscmotorpsorts.com website. They have the delphi pump upgrade you mentioned on ebay. They might be able to help you. I have read good things about them on other sites and am going to try that upgrade when I get the cash. I have a 7.3 though. Also you could look at the redneck ram at westtexasoffroad.com website if you want to add a hydraulic assist setup. Let us know what you do and how it works.

Give AGR a call, I don't think they make a direct replacement for anything other than a 7.3 SD, but they might have a system that can be modified to fit. If you can break an AGR box, your just being overly mean to your truck.

The stock SD steering box isn't up to handling bigger tires, especially with a front locker like on mine. I found out real quick that a hydro assist is gonna be necessary to take the stress off the steering box, specifically the sector shaft.

Go on down to the 4x and Off road forum and do a search for hydro assist or put up this same thing down there. Fish, Kubota, and a bunch of other guys down there are running hydro assist for the same reason.

Thanks for mentioning that Big Sarge. I should have mentioned that AGR is best known for their Rock Ram hydraulic system. I believe, but I'm not sure that if you want to run a Ram system AGR can modify any Saginaw type steering box for the hydraulic system.

That's why I'm looking at it for assist, rather than full hydro. It still retains all the normal steering components and stays street legal, it just gives you a BIG boost in turning that puppy.

Been getting some good info from fish and a 1.5 - 1.75 x 8 ram will give you good speed and control for street. A 2x8 ram would be better off road, but a little less responsive.

Excellent point. Full hydraulic is best left for the "never going to see the street" rigs or rear-steer. Anyway, I mentioned this to one of the guy's I wheel with and he steered me toward ORU's hydraulic assist. This is supposed to be (I have no personal experience with them) one of the better one's for our SD's.
